As I started planning out my look for challenge #1 of the LOULOU & Smart Set it GIRL contest, I still can’t believe I’ve been chosen as a finalist!
Such an honour to participate in a national contest, with such great brands and fellow nominees. It’s going to be a fun few weeks!
Challenge #1 tasked us with styling coloured denim for “play” – so naturally I styled an outfit perfect for a day of shopping, my favourite pastime! Keep reading to see what trends inspired my look and enjoy the reveal!
My favourite Fall 2012 trend inspiration for my first it GIRL look is the hottest colour of the season – BURGUNDY! I love this colour and the way it flatters my skin tone and brings out the red in my hair! It’s so warm and looks great on everyone – Smart Set was bang on with their denim colours! Burgundy is EVERYWHERE right now, from the runways to the stores – everyone needs a little burgundy in their wardrobe.
The other Fall 2012 fashion trend that inspired me in this challenge?
GEOMETRIC PRINTS! Prints are so hot this season and daring divas are piling up with prints on prints on prints! My interpretation of this trend is a little more wearable for the everyday gal and totally work appropriate too!
And a look isn’t complete without hair and makeup! I was inspired by the ROMANTIC BOHEMIAN look. Simple wavy hair parted down the middle, smokey brown eye makeup and burgundy lips.
Can you tell I’m loving the burgundy trend this season?! This look translates perfectly form day to night and if you want a little more drama, you can darken the eyes and/or the lips for night time.

The brown in the bangles tied everything together and allowed me to stray from the safety net of black shoes too! It’s a warm pre-fall look suitable for the weather we’ve been having here in Toronto!
For this look, I purchased the following items:
- 710800 – Printed Chiffon Blouse (Black/White) – $35.00
- 304235 – Skinny Easy Fit Denim (Maroon) – $56.00
- 712411 – Wooden Bangles – $16.00
Total cost with tax = $120.91 – under the $150 per look budget – YAY!
It’s a Bohemian Chic look that’s perfect for a day of shopping! I love to spend my weekends browsing boutiques in Queen West, Yorkville and the Eaton Centre so this bright and sun filled perch at the Eaton Centre was the perfect location for my photo!
